Making kitchen remodel mistakes is easy. With so many kitchen remodeling ideas and an abundance of materials, great designs, and color options, getting astray and missing your point happens just like that – hands-down. And some of these mistakes are not forgiving, especially if they have to do with money. And because they have to do with your kitchen. So, instead of sitting here chit-chatting, let us focus on our current fears: possible pitfalls during the kitchen renovation.
Getting the cheap version to save kitchen reno money
Nobody likes the high kitchen remodeling costs but everyone is called to pay them – at least, once in their lifetime. What people usually do to save money is cut from here and there, and choose lower quality products to keep the overall kitchen remodel cost down.
When you are still in the process of planning the kitchen design, the layout, the entire remodel, you will come across all sorts of products – cheap and expensive. No need to get the most expensive ones but don’t settle for poor quality either just to keep your pocket intact. Kitchens get some serious beating over the years and everything about them must scream quality, strength, resilience. If you want to save money, buy cheaper accessories and hardware – things that will only make an esthetic difference and will be easier to replace tomorrow.
Letting form dominate instead of function
It’s easy to be carried away by beautiful kitchen sinks, shiny faucets, minimalist hardware, awesome colors. But while window shopping never hurts anyone, buying things you don’t actually need just because you liked the style, the design, or the color is not a good idea.
One of the main reasons for the kitchen renovation is to make the room more comfortable. To create a better workflow, more storage space, clever corners, ample counter room – to increase function in the kitchen. To do that, everything must be planned in great detail from the start. After all, when it comes to a room where the location of the fridge affects your movements, the size of the workstations dictates your convenience, and the countertop material will determine your day-to-day comfort, planning well means everything. Don’t let anything draw your attention to any place else than function. That’s your first priority, especially if this is a small kitchen remodel, and thus every inch counts.
Spending on unnecessary things
Splurging – as far as your wallet lets you, is common practice when it comes to kitchen remodeling projects. But spending just for the sake of it doesn’t make sense. As we said already, it’s easy to let all these beautiful accessories and colorful kitchen appliances fool you into buying them. But you need to put priorities first. Then buy the extras. Of course, the main appliances in the kitchen are not extra. But it’s best to be sure first that the kitchen has a new floor, countertop, enough cabinets, and all the necessary accessories before you take it further.
Forgetting what the kitchen remodel was all about
There are so many things to consider and worry about that it’s easy to forget the reasons why you started all this. If, for example, you got yourself in this adventure to create a lot of more storage space and forget to focus on that, it’ll be a pitfall – one that you will regret for a long time. The usual reason for such jobs is often wearing. Kitchens get dated – more often outdated and must be refreshed. Since this doesn’t happen often, you surely want to follow the trends and also meet your family’s current requirements. Stick with the latter first and while you shouldn’t turn your back to the trends, you shouldn’t make them your priority either. Some things in the kitchen are particularly important and cannot easily change – the kitchen flooring, the kitchen cabinets, the sink, et cetera. Our attention is often drawn to focus on the tree and we miss the forest – that’s a mistake on its own.
