The telltale signs screaming that a kitchen renovation is badly needed often stare us in the eye, but we fail to see them. Not that we don’t want to, but the cost is usually high. The hassle comes with the territory, while the kids are still nagging and pulling the skirt for one more sandwich, one more piece of cake.
The reasons for your kitchen remodel may range from serious to very serious ones. And such projects go beyond replacing the old dishwasher or getting a new refrigerator. Sometimes, there’s a need for a few changes; sometimes, there’s a need for a fundamental kitchen remodeling. But it’s time to do something about the kitchen when you deal with one (or more than one) of the following problems.
1. No prep space
When the countertops are swamped with kitchen equipment or too small to allow you to prep meals, there’s a problem. The present kitchen design is not helpful at all and it’s time for you to do something about it. The problem becomes bigger if you have guests over for dinner often. It becomes even more pressing if your family is big. Cooking for plenty with not enough counter space is a nightmare. Perhaps it’s time to consider the kitchen reno you were putting off for so long.
2. Limited storage room
Your countertop may be swamped with different items if you have no space to put them. Lack of sufficient storage space in the kitchen is every family’s nightmare. Not only do you keep the counter busy for no reason, but also the current kitchen cabinets messy – in an effort to fit all the things you have in the limited space there is. Consider that even a small, additional cabinet can create a lot more space for your things – let alone renovating the kitchen with that in mind.
3. Bad odors
If there’s a bad odor in the kitchen, there’s most likely moisture. Or even mold. You need a kitchen remodeler to refresh the cabinets, especially the ones under the sink. But first, you must detect the affected area and fix the moisture problem. It’s no surprise that most kitchen remodeling services include the replacement of the old plumbing fixtures. They get old, worn, and damaged and may cause leaks. Perhaps it’s time to update the plumbing fixtures in your kitchen.
4. No flow
Your work flow in the kitchen may be obstructed by the current design. The layout of the kitchen plays a crucial role in your everyday life. Kitchens must be design to let people have easy access to all the necessary items in order to cook, make coffee, do the dishes, etc. Sometimes, kitchens have everything a kitchen must have but the distances are long. Or the opposite, too close. It’s important to have enough space from the countertop to the kitchen island to the cabinets without getting crowded or having to pace back and forth to reach glassware or cooking appliances.
5. Insufficient lighting
Poor kitchen lighting makes cooking and preparing meals a struggle. It’d be lovely if you could have a large window to get as much natural light as possible. But it’s also important that you have sufficient work light over the island, under the cabinets, inside the cabinets – everywhere.
6. Countertop damage
Countertops are made of different materials and so, not all of them have the same life expectancy. Even so, quality materials get old and worn, too. At one point, cleaning the countertop is very hard. The worst part is that damaged countertops may easily become sources of health hazards. That’s because when the surface is damaged and the material becomes porous, it will absorb bacteria that will be transferred to your food. That’s a sign that you must replace the countertops ASAP.
7. Outdated kitchen design & color
Let’s say, you moved in this house and hate the kitchen. Or live in this house for years, plan to live here for much longer and just don’t like the color or the design of the kitchen (anymore). What’s the harm of planning its renovation?
